    Pré-requis :

- Knowledge of sensory systems (vision, taste, olfaction, hearing, balance, somesthesia)

- Knowledge of the operating principles of sensory methods (detection threshold, recognition threshold, differential)

    Compétences attestées (transversales, spécifiques) :

-Transversal

- Adopt a transversal approach in the design of experimental protocols in neuroscience (molecular, cellularintegrative, cognitive, and/or ethology), by integrating differentapproaches
- Carry out a scientific study, with a view to an evaluation, a development, design, application, or in order to test or develop a model.
- Formulate working hypotheses, develop protocols, recommend methodological choices, analyze experimental data and produce representative diagrams of observed phenomena

- develop a critical awareness of knowledge in the field

- Solve problems to develop new new knowledge and new procedures

Specific

Mobilize knowledge highly specialized knowledge, at the the forefront of knowledge in the field, as the

basis of an original original thought

- search for information in the appropriate databases

- reformulate an industrial application question into a neuroscientific problem

- master the physiological measurement tools of perception and emotions (eyetracking, EEG, RED, ECG...)

    Programme de l'UE / Thématiques abordées :

The first objective is to consolidate knowledge about the neurobiological bases of sensory processing and cognitive mechanisms underlying perception. The second objective is to train students in the use of measurement and quantification tools essential to neurosensory and perceptual analysis.

 - Senses and Perception (Sensory/perceptual dissociation; Vision; Olfaction; Hearing; Touch; Taste and Flavor; Somesthesia and sensorimotor control; Sensory integration and intermodal interactions; Conscious and non-conscious perception)

- Memory and perception (Role of memory in perceptual construction; encoding, recall and recognition)

- Emotion and perception (Neural bases of emotion, neuromediators and structures; Human ethology and social emotions, social cognition)

The following measures will be covered:

 Measurement of physiological responses

- High temporal resolution measurements: (EEG, MEG)

- High spatial resolution measurements: (PET, fMRI)

- PNS measurements: (respiration, RED, EKG, temperature)

-Measures of motor activations: (EMG, kinematics)

 Measurement of behavioral responses

- Chronometry (reaction time)

- Sensory psychophysics (taste and smell thresholds, psychoacoustics)

- Psychophysics of emotions (influence of emotion on perception)

- Psychophysics of consciousness (influence of subliminal stimuli on perception)

Methods of analysis of spontaneous behavior

- Observation of spontaneous behavior and tools for the analysis of this behavior (time sequences)

In connection with the theoretical courses, practical work will propose an initiation to the techniques of control and measurement of stimuli, but also to the recording of physiological and behavioral responses to these stimuli
