-        Knowledge of the anatomo-functional organization of the nervous system at the molecular, cellular and network levels.

-        Knowledge of the concepts and investigation tools enabling to study behavior, to record and manipulate neural networks’ activation, and to study synaptic communication and plasticity.

    Programme de l'UE / Thématiques abordées :
Identifying the neural trace of learning and memory i.e. the structural and functional changes happening in the brain to enable learning and memory, is a fundamental question in neurosciences. This teaching unit focuses on one particular form of associative learning called “fear conditioning” and will present the different level of analysis that can be combined to identify the neural traces of memory in both physiological and pathological conditions. In addition to gaining scientific knowledge on this topic, students will practice scientific reasoning and critical analysis of experimental data. Focus is made on the complementarity and specificity inputs brought by each level of analysis to the understanding of learning and memory: going from molecular events to behavioral modifications, and including structural and functional plasticity at the synaptic and network levels. Lectures will provide landmark knowledge in the different levels of analysis applied to fear conditioning. Group works based on flipped classrooms and interactive pedagogy will complete the introductory lectures and increase students’ involvement in their own learning.
