    Programme de l'UE / Thématiques abordées :

From interatomic forces to extended interactions, this course proposes to link microscopic to macroscopic properties in surfaces and interfaces as solid-solid or solid-liquid which are ubiquitous in nanoscience. Properties of surfaces and low-dimensional nanoobjects are explored both from solid state physics concepts to molecular and soft matter science.

  1. Introduction of the different forces: Electrostatic forces between surfaces in liquids. The Poisson-Boltzmann theory (Debye length). The DLVO theory. Measurements of surface forces (optical tweezer, Atomic force microscopy, ...)
  2. Crystalline structure
  3. Dynamics of solids
  4. Dynamics of electrons in Solids
  5. From Solids to Surfaces: Adsorption, Desorption and Chemical Reactions, Electronic states, structures and vibrational properties of surfaces, Overview over experimental techniques
  6. Mesoscopic scale, dispersed media and colloidal limit
  7. Capillarity, contact angle and wetting behaviors
  8. Out-of-equilibrium effects and specific interfaces, processing of super-hydrophobic surfaces
  9. Dispersed media: colloids and emulsions
