The Computer Science department of the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 attaches great importance to the mission of training future executives by the guidelines defined by the Ministry in charge of Higher Education and Research and the context of the construction of the European Higher Education Area. Three mentions exist in Computer Science at the University of Lyon 1: - Mention Informatique, - Mention MIAG: Computer Methods Applied to Management, - Mention CCI: Complementary Competence in Computer Science.
The Computer Science option includes a total of 9 specialities (2 professional specialities and 7 research specialities) which bring together a pool of more than 300 students (100 in the first year of the Master's degree and 200 in the second year).
Based on a first year of Master 1, it provides students with solid generalist training on the theoretical and practical aspects of Computer Science in the fields of Networks, Databases, Information Systems, Web Programming, Images, Artificial Intelligence, and Operational Research... The second year qualifies students to specialize in a promising branch of Computer Science and to choose a Professional or Research orientation. Many students from other universities who have completed the first year of a master's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) can enter the second year directly.
The specialities of the Research Master are co-accredited by the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1, the University Lumière Lyon 2, the INSA of Lyon, the ENS of Lyon and the Ecole centrale de Lyon 1.
All courses in the Computer Science department, particularly the Master's, are supported by academic research: teaching is mainly delivered by researchers carrying out their research work in the LIRIS, ELICO, LIP or ERIC laboratories. The objective is to offer students state-of-the-art lectures covering the fundamentals of computer science and original and recent results from the latest technologies resulting from research. The laboratories also welcome trainees from research masters as well as doctoral students.
The training prepares students for careers as computer engineers (integrators and designers of solutions, direction and recommendation, and high-level developers). There are many positions for graduates, both in Information Technology services companies and in the departments of regional or national companies, small and medium companies or large accounts. The continuation of doctoral studies is possible for students from research-oriented specialities.
